Creativity is the only thing that will differentiate one child from another. Hence the learning has to become creative, interesting, quick and interactive starting now into future.
The current ways of teaching and the curriculum were designed actually to produce worker like mentality fit for the industrial era.
The industrial era adults who were suppose to work in the factories, mostly worked on just one repetitive activity, required not much thinking or inputs, needed punctuality ingrained into their systems so that if there was any process dependent on him, the subsequent assembly line processes suffered. If the person handling the first process in the assembly line was late, all others would just wait.
We have reached the phase of education industry where everything is in the initial stage of transitioning from the assembly line type teaching to creative and thinking type of learning.
Mind you, learning happens on its own, whereas teaching-learning happens consciously with effort.
Educational institutes who are early to pick the creative methodologies today would be the ones leading tomorrow’s education sector with immense authority and respect.
Interactive boards the most common and easy way of making learning fun, which a few schools in Pune are adapting to along with the regular black board teaching.
A few schools are going with another option of creative learning by introducing more intelligence based activities in their schools to tap the passion and potential of the kids. Intelligence based curriculums are easier to adapt as they provide outdoor and indoor options which is must for all kids.As all kids must play outdoor everyday to build an overall personality.
A few new options are like online games where children can learn by playing games which in-turn teaches them their level of all subjects. A few innovative entrepreneurs have come up with interesting ”world of electron boxes” where older children can build basic electronic things and learn the principals of physics easily and effectively. Other innovations like kitchen chemistry, astronomy and biology are also being designed by innovative organisations. One such company is called “Cool Junk” which has been started by a young entrepreneur, Gurpawan Mand, who is passionately instilling creativity into our education system. Kitchen Chemistry is started by CHILD and MOM Foundation to spread the use of chemistry in our day to day life.
These provide hands on exposure which will turn many students into inventors and lead to many discoveries from India too.
Outdoor games like “paint ball” are live and best way to interact, react, strategies and absorb success or failures within a team. They bring out the true personalities on the fields, which can be improved upon if observed by experienced teachers.
Video games are another great way of learning which the kids are quite happy and glued to always. The use of videos in schools is still not seen but there are many online sites which offer cool ways to learn simple concepts using games online. Video games are excellent learning tools as they improve the comprehension, grasping, reaction timing, ability to handle failures, enhances competitiveness and intelligence up to the competency levels of each child.
The site below is an excellent talk on importance of video by a game designer, who passionately believes that games can save earth.
